Odis McKinzie, MA, NCC, LPC (VA), LMHC (HI), ACS, CSAT
Odis McKinzie Jr., MA, LPC (VA), LMHC (HI) received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology with Public Relations as a minor, from Syracuse University in 1983. He received dual Master of Arts degrees in Forensic and Counseling Psychology from Marymount University in 2004. He is a member of the Psi Chi and Chi Sigma Iota Psychology Honor Societies. He completed his clinical internship at Washington Assessment and Therapy Services (WATS), The Florence Bertell Academy of Baltimore (FBAB), a Level V school for behaviorally challenged adolescent males, and Lawrence Court Halfway House. He completed his practicum at Psychiatric Rehabilitative Services (PRS). Following graduation, he worked as a clinical counselor in various jobs in the Washington Metro Area, as well as saw clients in his private practice offices in Maryland and Virginia (VA).
He recently returned to VA in 2013 after living in Hawaii (HI) for three years. During the time in HI, he did contract work as a Military and Family Life Consultant (MFLC), as well as establish a private practice. In addition to private and group practice work, he was employed fulltime as a clinical counselor at the Community Counseling Center located at Quantico Marine Base, VA, until 2015. He is currently a doctoral student at Virginia Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute (VA Tech), pursuing a degree in Counselor Education and Supervision. He was selected as a 2016 Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) Fellow with the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) as well as an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). He is finalizing certification for a Certified Sex Addictions Treatment (CSAT) credential.
His areas of areas of clinical interest include: individual and group therapy with adolescents and adults; warrior transition and counseling with military service members and their families; sex addictions treatment (CSAT), forensic work with the courts; substance counseling for individuals and groups; gang intervention; reintegration and counseling, for inmates and their family members; counseling for dually diagnosed, (intellectual disability (ID), also known as general learning disability), and mental retardation (MR), and homeless clients. Additional interests include: Employment Assistance Program (EAP) work, corporate trainings, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD), premarital and divorce counseling for individuals as well as marital and relationship counseling; divorce mediation, life and career coaching; peer supervision work to include postgraduate and pre-licensure preparation.Price Range: $$Please list any extra experience, education, or credentials to show proof of experience:
